Ideal for musicians, a mindfulness practice supports the development of curiosity, spontaneity, physical ease, self-acceptance and open-heartedness. At a time when we are being asked to delve deep and reflect upon what it truly means to be a musician, Ruth believes that these qualities are becoming increasingly important if we are to reach our highest potential as artists and become instruments of change.
This Introduction to Mindfulness is offered as part of Ruth’s two-year training for the International Mindfulness and Meditation Teacher Certification Programme run by Jack Kornfield & Tara Brach. It is specifically designed for musicians, exploring our experience of presence, connection, breath, self compassion and embodiment both in the practice room and on stage. The classes weave together the two wings of mindfulness from the Vipassana or Insight tradition: Wisdom (or clear seeing) and Compassion. At the end of the four weeks you will have learned the four basic meditation techniques that include finding your ‘anchor’, and dealing with negative thoughts and difficult emotions, and you will have a sense of the potential mindfulness has to transform your experience of practice and performance.
This will be a closed group for a maximum of ten people. It is a requirement of Ruth’s training that each person attend each session live. Each class will consist of a short meditation, talk, and Q & A. The classes are offered freely. If you would like to attend, please contact Ruth directly on email@example.com.
