Learn magnificent and simple Scottish tunes by heart and jump into the sweet, deep waters of traditional music with Mairi Campbell
Mairi Campbell facilitates in a way that makes fiddle learning fun and easy with glimpses of profound. This class framework allows a variety of participants’ playing issues to be openly addressed and explored within the online class setting. Each player offers us opportunities to deepen our awareness of music in general and Scottish and Cape Breton fiddle playing in particular.
Requirement: Know one tune by ear. Each participant brings one traditional folk tune that they know and can play by heart/ear. These tunes form the class repertoire.
Aural learning is encouraged and written music will be available.
“I was fascinated by the way in which you were able to attend to everyone’s individual needs within the group setting, and make it useful and interesting for all involved”
“Up to then, I had what might be described as a mechanistic approach to playing, assuming that mere alterations to playing technique would achieve a change in sound. However, your remarkable blend of simple and effective repetative exercises with deep philosophical insights into the elemental purpose of folk tunes, has wrought in me a complete rethink about music as a universal language; and consequently to approach playing it by living it”
