These sessions are aimed at the accordionist who has reached a basic level and now wants to make further progress. I want to make this versatile instrument more appreciated in all musical circles and we will explore techniques to create space and different textures.

These will be the areas of special focus:

  • dynamics (not just mf, f and ff)
  • phrasing
  • articulation
  • bellow control
  • simple and effective left hand accompaniments

Ideally you will have an accordion that has a row of counter bass buttons (major 3rds).
Music will be sent out in advance and won’t be too demanding, the priority is to learn techniques and not repertoire.

“Paul has been an inspirational teacher both at Cecil Sharp House and at Halsway Manor over several years. I started knowing nothing about the accordion, and through his guidance and teaching, and wonderful collection of accessible and enjoyable music, I am now a competent player, and am composing my own pieces. Learning with Paul is fun, challenging and never boring.”
