Reinvigorating Folk Tunes: 2 session course
27 July @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm BST
One event on 27 July 2021 at 4:00 pm
For many years I played for social dancing where the set tunes were often not (for me at least) very enjoyable. To make matters worse, these tunes had to be played multiple times and then to my dismay, the dance would be repeated. Self-preservation taught me various new skills in keeping a tune alive and interesting.
All participants are invited to submit a tune each week. Ideally this will be well-known, especially to me!
Your mission (should you wish to accept it), is to choose a tune which you are bored with, can’t play, or have to play but don’t want to. My mission (which I will accept) is to suggest numerous ways to enhance and reinvigorate said tunes.
I can also help simplify those difficult tunes which have too many notes or awkward intervals.
Let me help you to develop your existing repertoires by breathing new life into them.
“I look forward to lessons and the beautiful music he chooses/composes makes me want to keep learning. More than anything, I’ve valued his way of encouraging a kind of musical sensibility so that even to someone with pretty limited skills he extends the possibility of playing with heart and sensitivity. I highly recommend learning with him.”
