Taking the Plunge
3 June 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm BST
£10.00 – £12.00
This discussion forum for artists, musicians and creative thinkers led by Liz Dilnot Johnson explores how risk-taking as creatives can work, looking at how even ideas that start small can end up big – both on a personal level and with projects, or at work.
The sessions will challenge you to think outside the box with some ‘blue-sky’ thinking in small groups as well as trying out some top stress-busting tips to support us in our braver moments.
Inspired by our experiences setting up InsideOut Musician, this discussion group is a place to imagine how to make things happen, reveal what makes us wobble along the way, and find ways to keep it all together.
Liz invites her special guest the international virtuoso double bassist and conductor Leon Bosch to talk about his own ‘taking the plunge’ and wobbly moments. Expect some insights and some laughs too.
Leon Bosch
‘Every note I play on the instrument embraces my life experiences, both in Europe and in my South African homeland. I’ve known love and comradeship, but also witnessed the epitome of hatred. I’ve felt both shining optimism and deep despair. I’ve benefited from the pleasures of civilised society, but also seen the destructive impact of poverty and ignorance. I’ve been privileged to stand side by side with people who’ve lost their lives in the defence of their principles.’
The hour-long session divides into three parts:
- An imaginative and physical starter getting brain and body working together
- Guest spot – Liz invites a fellow artist with their own stories about taking the plunge, what it was like and how any hurdles are being overcome
- Open forum – an opportunity to explore some of our own current plunge moments, wobbles and big ideas within the group.
There will be two break-out sessions, giving an opportunity to meet new folks and to share ideas. Book your Early Bird price ticket before the day of the workshop to guarantee your place.

“It’s good to wobble – in fact, it’s to be recommended as part of your general psychological development… There is a lot of movement in a jelly. The mould holds a jelly in place until it has set, and when it’s removed the jelly can still wobble but has still got the support memory from the mould.
This is how some of our work sessions and growth as a team has felt at InsideOut Musician. We have all had major wobbles, but by sharing our vulnerabilities, we have acknowledged that it’s completely NORMAL to feel these things.
The sharing has then led to greater insights and enhanced our confidence. It’s all about daring to reveal these tricky places, knowing that we can be held and supported, like the mould.”
