The Heart of the Musician
13 June @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am BST
An event every week that begins at 9:00 am on Monday, repeating until 27 June 2022
Bringing the heart back to performance and the heart-space back to the concert hall
“It’s radical to be joyful” – Jack Kornfield
At a time when our world is in urgent need of healing, it seems increasingly important to address the fear, competition, inequality and envy with which our musical lives are riddled, and commit to bringing the qualities of kindness, compassion, self-compassion, joy and equanimity back to our music making.
The Heart of the Musician follows on from Ruth’s four week Introduction to Mindfulness course, The Mindful Musician, and is offered as part of her two-year training for the International Mindfulness and Meditation Teacher Certification Programme run by Jack Kornfield & Tara Brach. Concentrating on the second wing of mindfulness – compassion (the first being wisdom or clear thinking) – this course will focus on the four main heart practices from Buddhist teaching: Loving kindness, compassion, shared joy and equanimity. Each 90 minute session will consist of a short talk, a guided meditation, Q and A and a discussion. Building a heartfelt mindful community of musicians ready to serve, heal and celebrate is Ruth’s deepest aspiration.
This will be a closed group for a maximum of twelve people. Some basic experience of meditation is necessary. It is a requirement of Ruth’s training that each person attend each session live. The classes are offered freely. If you would like to attend, please contact Ruth directly on email@example.com. She will be delighted to hear from you.
