‘Mindfulness is the awareness that arises from paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally. ‘ – John Kabat Zinn
Ruth and Lucy have been using mindfulness in their practice, performance and teaching for several decades and have found it to be utterly transformative. Through it they have developed an ability to pause, to listen deeply both inward and outward, to notice what’s there without judgement and to relax and let go into the present moment. Now, as they continue their training to become teachers of mindfulness meditation with the two leading teachers in the West – Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield – they are delighted to offer a series of weekly meditations and discussions for musicians and creatives on InsideOut Musician. These gatherings offer a safe space for anyone wanting to explore meditation for the first time or continue their ongoing practice. They will be offered freely while Ruth and Lucy are still in training. Meanwhile, any donations to the IOM Bursary fund would be greatly appreciated.
“Ruth opened up my eyes to a completely new way of approaching my instrument; marrying movement and breath, and helping me feel more grounded – even from the other end of a zoom call!” – Sinead o Halloran, winner of the RNCM 2021 Gold Medal and recently appointed cellist of the Marmen Quartet
“I have worked with Lucy for 6 years and found it one of the most complete learning experiences I’ve had the pleasure to take part in. Her holistic approach has helped me develop an awareness of how my body is connected to sound, helping me perform in a more relaxed and engaging way, enabling me to project my emotions into the music I play. Even through a screen on zoom her input was invaluable, it has allowed me to perfect the skills which I use and apply every day and fed my desire to always keep learning as a musician.” – David López Ibáñez- member of the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Hill Quartet.
